Mike and I have always been a fan of yogurt. We prefer plain yogurt and then adding in our own fun stuff like fruit and vanilla. As most of you know I am a kitchen gadgetoholic. Thank goodness they do not have QVC in Portugal!!!! However, to be fair to me, every kitchen gadget we purchase I use and use often.

Last year we purchased a yogurt maker. We have tried to make yogurt in our Instant Pot but it was a big fail. This little yogurt maker has been a workhorse in our kitchen and it was uber-affordable. We purchased the yogurt maker from Amazon.es but it looks like you can purchase something similar in the US (however way more expensive )

It is so easy to make yogurt in this little machine. It is as simple as pouring in the milk, adding about a tablespoon of plain Greek yogurt, stirring, putting the lid on, and hitting start. We use full-fat milk because we feel it creates the best texture and taste. We have tried with non-dairy milk but have not been very successful. I am not going to give up however so stay tuned.

Our Little Workhorse

We usually start the process around 6:00 pm and turn it off around 7:00 am the next day. The directions say the process takes anywhere from 12-14 hours. The machine does not make any noise. When we are ready to turn the machine off we just have to decide if we want regular yogurt ( thin ) or if we want Greek Yogurt ( thick ) If we want regular we just take the container out of the machine and place it in the refrigerator. If we want Greek yogurt then we pour the yogurt into a different container that has a strainer. The container with the strainer slowly drains the whey out of the yogurt making it a thicker yogurt. There are a lot of recipes out there for what you can do with the extra whey but I have not tried it as of yet.

This is the whey that strained out of the last batch of yogurt I made

We literally make a batch of yogurt a night. We love that it is truly just two ingredients. Mike likes to add honey to his but I love it 100% plain. I am telling you that if you like yogurt you should look into one of these guys. Once you have homemade yogurt you will never buy store-bought again.
